68-Year-Old Man Was Bitten By A Shark In North Carolina

67-year-old Andrew Costello was bitten several times in waist-deep water off North Carolina’s Outer Banks on Wednesday. I am receiving the best care at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC where I was airlifted yesterday.

Mix these reasons together with summer and a beach full of swimmers, and like Mayor Larry Vaughn from “Jaws” famously said, “we got a panic on our hands on the Fourth of July”.

McCrory spoke after the seventh shark attack in the past three weeks, the most for the state’s coast in the 80 years for which the Florida Museum of Natural History’s worldwide Shark Attack File keeps records. Combined with the high number of people visiting the beaches since schools let out has resulted in a recipe for more attacks. “I don’t think people need to live in fear of being at the beach knowing that this is quite rare”, Lynette says.

In an attack on Saturday, a 17-year-old was in critical condition after a shark bit him on his calf, buttocks and both hands at a beach on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. On Thursday, the Boston Herald reported that Costello is their ex- Editor-in-Chief. They are attracted by sea turtles – which are nesting this time of year and are a favorite of bull and tiger sharks – and by the robust population of menhaden fish, he said. He said, “I could see the fin slowly coming by me, a shark is upon me, it’s attacking me”.

Another shark attack reported along the Carolina beaches! Officials said extra crews will be available to respond to any emergencies, but overall, they have not seen an impact on tourism.

Lynette Holman, on holiday with her husband, said: “He had a five-inch gash on his leg. The news spread quickly and everyone ran out of the water”.

The Holman’s say they were aware of the other six prior shark attacks in the state, but that didn’t stop them from enjoying time away from their home in Boone.

Swimmers were back in the water at that spot within a couple of hours after the attack, Hefty said.

“We’re guessing he just bit down and realized that wasn’t what he wanted and released and let go”, said Alene Weakley, who had taken her family for a swim in Isle of Palms, South Carolina.

This latest attack comes after a spate of serious incidents involving sharks, including the June 14th attacks where a girl, 12, and boy, 16 both lost arms to a shark.

No attacks have occurred at Carolina Beach but for some, it’s too close for comfort. According to Vidant Medical Center officials, Costello was listed in good condition as of Thursday morning.
