Aiken-area children are invited to sit and read with Mrs. Claus next week.

At 4 p.m. Tuesday, children ages 8 and older can listen to Mrs. Claus read “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” by Holly Hobbie, before getting to take home a holiday book of their own.

The cost of the storytime is free, and parents don’t have to sign up their children to attend.

“The event is staying pretty traditional, and it’s still a free event,” said Sam Radford, the recreation program coordinator with the City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department. “We will give a book away to each person in attendance, and each child will get a cookie and juice.”

Aside from reading, door prizes will be made available for two children and those in attendance also can share messages with Mrs. Claus to relay back to Santa before Christmas.

“It’s an easy and fun event,” Radford said. “We hope events like this spark an interest in reading. Storytime is always a fun time, and this time they get to visit and meet Mrs. Claus, telling her messages and taking photos with her.”

Storytime with Mrs. Claus will be held in rooms 6 and 7 of the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center, 1700 Whiskey Road.
