JACKSONVILLE — Onslow Tourism has launched a new app to showcase the areas events and attractions.
The “Only in Onslow” app is available now on the iPhone, and it’s helping to promote events in Onslow County, like the Engaged Onslow Bridal Expo coming up on Feb. 21 at the American Legion Building on Broadhurst Road.
“We are trying to spread the word and get people think that Onslow County can be a destination wedding site,” said Dawn Jensen, organizer for the expo. “You can walk through that entire venue and meet everybody that you need to meet to plan your perfect day.”
Engaged Onslow is just one of nine events currently featured on the app.
“They can go on there and see more information. They can register. Our sponsors will be listed there,” said Jensen.
Onslow County Tourism Director Theresa Carter said they’re quickly adding more. She hopes to have 20 events listed by the end of the year.
“The app when you pull it up, lists all the events, and each one of them have the ability to toggle and create their own mobile app,” said Carter.
The app allows people to follow a specific event and receive notifications for things like date or time changes.
But it also highlights recreation opportunities and permanent attractions in Onslow County.
“Lejeune Gardens, the beach, all of these things are available, and we want people to know there are lots of things to do in Onslow County,” Carter said.
The app is available now on the Apple store. Carter said it will also be available in the Google Play store for Android devices by the end of the week.
