SAN ANGELO, Texas – Texas is tops in real estate
It appears that real estate investment has headed south for the winter, from year-end data compiled by Local Market Monitor, the national real estate forecaster, and HomeVestors of America.
Texas, North Carolina and Florida have closed out the year as tops for single-family investment property markets.
“The real estate markets that made the top 10 list for investing were chosen based on population growth and it’s near cousin, job growth — both conditions ideal for investing in single family homes,” said Ingo Winzer, president and founder of Local Market Monitor.
“In all of the top 10 markets, the populations increased by more than double the national average of one percent.”
Topping the list were Austin and Houston, with other Southern cities Raleigh, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee and Orlando, Florida in the top five. San Antonio also made the list, coming in at seventh place.
“Texas has always been a sweet spot for real estate investing,” said David Hicks, HomeVestors co-president. “Its economy is strong, and only getting stronger. This is spurring population and job growth, especially among younger workers looking for work in retail, business and tourism. They are looking to rent, not buy a home.”
The average home prices in the top 10 markets are under $300,000, although the markets listed among the top 20 range from $166,000 to $844,000, in the report.

Sonora hospital appoints new CEO
Lillian M. Hudspeth Memorial Hospital in Sonora has selected an Air Force veteran as its new Chief Executive Officer.
John A. Graves is currently senior administrator of American Anesthesiology of North Carolina where he is responsible for anesthesia services for six hospitals and five ambulatory surgery centers in Raleigh and Wilson, North Carolina.
He retired from the USAF as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Medical Service Corps.
Preston Faris, hospital board president, said the directors were impressed Graves’ scope of prior leadership experience in operations, human resources, and medical practice management as well as his depth of experience in overseeing hospital financial operations.
“Given the challenges hospitals will encounter in the face of health care reform and declining reimbursement, we felt John was ideally suited for our organization,” Faris said. “That he and his wife were so interested in our organization and in living in Sonora, made a very tough choice a little easier.
