The 2015 St. Patrick’s Day on Main Festival will be 4:30-9:30 p.m. March 17 in downtown Rock Hill.
The festival will kick off with a lone bagpiper and will feature live Irish/Celtic music from the Federal Clan Kings and Carolina Ceili, an Irish/Celtic folk band from Asheville, Irish dancers from Walsh Kelley School of Irish Dancing and Rince na h’Eireann Dance School of Traditional Irish Dance, Irish/Celtic and other arts crafts vendors, a large amusement area for children and food and beverages. Admission is free.

Special events
• The 35th annual Charlotte Camellia Society flower show and plant sale will be held in Rock Hill 1-5 p.m. March 14-15 at the Historic White Home, 258 White St. The event is free and open to the public.
Visitors can see the winners in the society’s annual camellia competition, buy camellias and to register for a drawing for a free camellia plant.
Camellias are native to Asia but have been part of the Southern landscape since the early 19th century. For more information, call Caroline Dejesus at 704-609-4888.
• The St. Patrick’s Day Dog Parade at First Friday, will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at Walter Elisha Park in Fort Mill. Proceeds benefit Richardson Rescue in York. Top prizes for the four best “Irish” of show.
Also, in the Charity Zone, Achieve Fitness and USK Martial Arts obstacle course and other sport activities will benefit A Place for Hope.
Fort Mill’s Carolina Rhythm Band and Forgive Me Not will provide entertainment. Food, beer, wine and coffee will be for sale, and there will be plenty of treats for the dogs.
• Clemson Extension Service Agent Paul Thompson will talk about “Forty Acre Rock: A Local Treasure,” at the First Friday in the Garden at Glencairn Garden, 11 a.m. Friday at the Glencairn Garden Learning Center, 825 Edgemont Ave., Rock Hill.
The granite outcropping in Lancaster County is in a 2,257-acre preserve, which is managed by the state Department of Natural Resources. It has long been a favorite destination for native plant enthusiasts and bird watchers. The preserve, a designated National Natural Landmark, is home to many distinctive wildflowers and other rare plants. Free and open to the community.
• True Gospel Church Of God In Christ will distribute free food to families in need at 2 p.m. Friday at 552 Ashford Road, Chester. Limited to one family member per household. Valid ID with address is required. There are no financial stipulations.
• The Hillcrest Elementary School planning committee is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day party, 8 p.m. March 21 at the Menzel Temple, 1535 Neely’s Creek Road, Rock Hill. Admission, $10. Wear green and dress to impress.

• Pancake breakfast fundraiser for York County Christian Women’s Job Corps will be 8-10 a.m. Saturday at FATZ restaurant on Herlong Avenue, Rock Hill. Tickets are $7, adults and $4, ages 4-10. • Carolina Community Actions is accepting enrollment in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Program for 2015. Applicants must be ages 17-21 and meet the income guidelines to qualify. The program offers participants up to $5,000 in the following program services:

The program is paid for through the Catawba Regional Council of Government. CCA is a private, nonprofit corporation with a mission to promote self-reliance of low-income individuals and families by forming partnerships, which will provide a systematic reduction of the causes and conditions of poverty.

• Family Trust Federal Credit Union will offer a free workshop on home buying, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at its Fort Mill location, 430 Mercantile Place.
Representatives from Family Trust’s Mortgage Service Center will speak on credit score minimums to qualify for a mortgage, conventional, FHA, USDA and VA loans, and the difference between fixed and adjustable rates. Handouts will be provided.

• The Friends of the York County Animal Shelter, a nonprofit organization, needs volunteers to help with bathing, grooming, exercising, socializing, training, providing adoption information, as well as assisting in follow-ups, publicity and marketing and fulfilling other jobs at the shelter.
