WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –
Another season of tours starts Saturday at Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington. But will changes with the film industry in North Carolina have an impact on tourism this year? We visited the studios Friday to get a look at what visitors can expect.
“As long as production companies come here and are willing to let us show their sets then we are willing to have tours,” says manager of tours Trey Mosteller.
Mosteller tells us last year they had a very successful season, with about 1,000 guests a week. We asked him if attendance levels for the tours could possibly decrease from last year.
“If anything, I think there would be an increase because in the past year there has been more talk about what is going on with film in North Carolina so I would actually think there would be an increase,” explained Mostellar.
He says his team of tour guides are working hard to make sure people are drawn in this year. They’re using social media to get the word out and have set up new photo opportunities for visitors.
Guests will be able to go inside the diner used often in Under the Dome and tour the house used in Secrets and Lies, a new show featuring actors Ryan Phillippe and Juliette Lewis.
Tours will be hosted Saturday and Sundays, starting March 28, 2015, at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. – weather permitting throughout the summer.
Guests should check the tour hotline (910-343-3433) or visit studios.euescreengems.com/nc/tours before traveling for the latest tour updates. Tours can be canceled or delayed at the last minute due to weather or changes in shooting schedules on the lot. Guests should arrive at the studios 15 to 20 minutes ahead of time to purchase tickets.
Cost:
– $12 for adults
– $10 for students
– $10 for seniors (age 65 and over) and military personnel with an ID
– $5 for children, ages 5 to 12; children under 5 are free
Admission is cash only at this time.
