The concert will take place at 3 p.m. March 29 at First Congregational Church, 1735 Fifth Ave. W., Hendersonville.

Included will be works from France, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Denmark and Germany, ranging from classical favorites such as Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto to a new work by Gareth Farr evoking the sounds of waterfalls.

Individual tickets are $20 and will be available at the door on the day of the performance.

Four-ticket subscriptions are $75, including tax. They are available by mailing a check payable to HFCM, P.O. Box 271, Hendersonville, NC 28793.

Stepp to discuss new novel

Author and professor Lin Stepp will talk about her newest novel, “Makin’ Miracles,” at 3 p.m. Saturday at the upstairs portion of The Fountainhead Bookstore, 408 N. Main St., Hendersonville.

Set in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, Stepp’s “Makin’ Miracles” reveals why love and forgiveness are most important just when they seem most impossible.

Awards reception for Artists of Tomorrow

The public is invited to the opening awards reception for the secondary student exhibition, Artists of Tomorrow, from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at First Citizens Bank, 539 N. Main St., Hendersonville.

Select members of the North Henderson Choir will perform.

The exhibition will continue through April 10 and is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays–Thursdays and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays.

Artists of Tomorrow is the third exhibition of the Arts Council of Henderson County’s major winter/spring project Mentors and Students, celebrating the importance of the arts in a child’s life.

A $150 Best of Show award will be announced by representatives from the Art League of Henderson County, who are sponsoring the award.

The Arts Council will also award cash prizes for first place, second place and third place levels for both middle school and high school students.

In addition, the Arts Council will present the award winners with patron, family and student memberships for the Asheville Art Museum. Four honorable mentions will also be announced.

The public is invited to enter a free raffle to win a piece of art purchased by First Citizens Bank from the previous Art Teachers Create exhibition. The chance to win a ceramic pitcher by Robert Wallace, artist/art teacher at East Henderson High School, will continue through April 10. Participants must be 18 to enter and do not need to be present to win.

Music Academy students to perform

The Music Academy of Western North Carolina’s Academy String Quartet will present a full concert at 4 p.m. today at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 409 E. Patterson St., Hendersonville.

The concert includes works by Mozart, Handel, McLean and others. Refreshments will be served afterward.

Quartet members are Joah Bickley, violin; Anna Kirkland, violin; Daphne Bickley, viola; and Alex Salvaggio, cello. They are coached by Music Academy violin instructor Stephanie Quinn.

Students to perform Rodgers, Hammerstein

The Brevard College Theatre and Music Departments will present “Some Enchanted Evening, The Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. March 29 in the Ingram Auditorium at Brevard College.

The performance is a musical revue composed by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and concept by Jeffrey B. Moss.

The show is under the direction of guest artist Peter Savage and musical direction and choreography of guest artist Wendy Jones.

The cast includes Brevard College students Lily Bartleson, Raquan Edwards, Molly Ledford, Hunter Rogers and Alex Webster.

Scenic and lighting elements will be designed by Brevard College Assistant Professor Andrea Boccanfuso, with costumes by Ida Bostian.

Zeyu Victor Li, Brevard Philharmonic team up

Zeyu Victor Li, the youngest violinist ever to be accepted at the Curtis Institute of Music, will perform with the Brevard Philharmonic at 3 p.m. March 29 at The Porter Center at Brevard College.

The 19-year-old will join the Brevard Philharmonic for Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor, opus 63.

The concert will open with the Philharmonic playing Edward Elgar’s Variations on an Original Theme, opus 36, “Enigma.”

Zeyu Victor Li has won awards at the Montreal International Musical Competition, the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival and was a finalist in the 2012 Yehudi Menuhin Young Violinists International Competition.

Poetry workshop offered on Saturday

The Writers’ Workshop will offer a poetry workshop with Katherine Soniat from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 387 Beaucatcher Road, Asheville.

The class will discuss exemplary poems, write and revise their own, and receive group feedback on their work. Bring a poem in progress, or an image or story as a springboard.

Cost is $75, or $70 for members.
