CHARLOTTE — Charlotte tourism leaders are optimistic following comments from the NBA commissioner on Charlotte’s chances to host a future all-star game.
Adam Silver said Wednesday it’s not a question of if, but when.
In August, Charlotte leaders applied to host the 2017 or 2018 all-star game.
In September, to strengthen the Queen City’s chances and as part of a contract, the Charlotte City Council approved more than $30 million in renovations to Time Warner Cable Arena.
They include things like a new scoreboard and luxury seats.
“Things like the DNC tell things like the NBA that we can host big events, so clearly in the running because we have a reputation that we can pull of these kind of things off,” said Tom Murray, Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority.
Charlotte could find out whether it’s awarded the 2017 or 2018 all-star game sometime next year.
