Mercer star Nwamu transfers to UNLV – Las Vegas Review

Ike Nwamu, a 6-foot-5-inch shooting guard, announced Saturday he is transferring from Mercer to play basketball at UNLV.

As a graduate transfer, Nwamu will be eligible for the 2015-16 season. He led the Bears in scoring last season at 15.1 points per game and shot 37.2 percent from 3-point range.

Nwamu also considered UNR and Pittsburgh. He committed to UNLV on Saturday after returning home from his official visit to UNR.

Nwamu scored 11 points in Mercer’s upset of Duke in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

The Rebels’ top two scorers from last season — freshman guard Rashad Vaughn and sophomore forward Chris Wood — recently declared for the NBA Draft.

UNLV coach Dave Rice has signed three incoming freshmen — Bishop Gorman High 7-footer Stephen Zimmerman, 6-4 point guard Jalen Poyser from Canada and 6-6 forward Derrick Jones from Pennsylvania.
