BOONE – The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed Monday what some Watauga County residents were talking about Sunday evening – an earthquake in the Boone area.
The USGS said a minor earthquake, with an estimated intensity of 2.4, was reported about 7:30 p.m. in the Boone-Blowing Rock area. The quake was centered about two-thirds of a mile east of Tweetsie Railroad, or about 5 miles southeast of Boone.
