SYCAMORE – Sycamore Park District Executive Director Dan Gibble will be supplying knowledge to the next generation of park leaders at North Carolina State University’s School of Park Maintenance Management.
Gibble, who has been the park district’s executive director for three years, was elected to serve on the school’s Board of Regents beginning in May.
Students come from as far away as Africa for a weeklong class in North Carolina once a year, according to a news release.
“It’s only a week once a year, and it’s a pretty intensive class,” Gibble said. “It only takes me away one week out of the year.”
Gibble has taught at the program for six years, according to a news release.
He has other past experience as an instructor, too –he taught part time for six years in the Department of Recreation, Sport, and Tourism at the University of Illinois while he was superintendent for the Urbana Park District, and has worked in parks and recreation for 30 years overall, the news release states.
“Any time that our profession can improve our future leaders, it can only stand to help our local agencies better,” Gibble said of the program, “not only in terms of quality but more fiscally and efficiently. If I can help contribute to that, I’m very proud to do that.”
