Visiting overnight from Swain County High School, in the western part of the state in Bryson City, 11 students in Dora May’s Intermediate and Advanced Visual Arts class tour the grounds of the N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh, N.C. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Standing in the Lowe’s Park Pavilion, the structure by Mike Cindric and Vincent Petrarca, was “inspired by the transparency of a dragonfly’s wings, changes with the time of day and the quality of light.” They were in Raleigh to meet with students from Chapel Hill High School, another of the 18 schools from across the state to participate in the “Artist in Process” program at the N.C. Museum of Art. There are three components of the program: online work, student creation of artwork and a museum visit.
